Reflections on the Scriptures by Jason Arsenault

“Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.”

—Titus 3:1-2

Lord, how our tongues are so quick to speak evil, being set on fire so readily by the fires of hell! Let our words be acceptable in Your sight, overflowing from a heart filled with the fire of your implanted word of grace. We recognize our need for Your Spirit to do this work in us, for apart from You, we can nothing.

Mold us into a peaceable, gentle people, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits. Since You freely poured out your kindness, grace, and mercy on us, help us to be tenderhearted and eager to measure out the same—pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

Thank You for giving us the right to be called Your beloved children.

Help us to be imitators of You as such.

In the name of Your precious Son who subjected Himself to those who would crucify Him, because He loved us and gave Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma,

Amen
